Offline assess any website

HTTrack is a free and easy-to-use offline browser utility.

It allows you to download a World Wide Web site from the Internet to a local directory, building ecursively  all directories, getting HTML, images, and other files from the server to your computer. HTTrack arranges the original site's relative link-structure. Simply open a page of the "mirrored" website in your browser, and you can browse the site from link to link, as if you were viewing it online. HTTrack can also update an existing mirrored site, and resume interrupted downloads. HTTrack is fully configurable, and has an  integrated help system.

WinHTTrack is the Windows 2000/XP/Vista/Seven release of HTTrack, and WebHTTrack the Linux/Unix/BSD release. See the download page.

How to recover lost password in Ubuntu

Ubuntu, which is more secure and flexible way to work with but what if you lose your account password which is used to login to your user account. So why do you lose your password!! well there are many reasons like you may forget what password you selected during the ubuntu installation process or you may forgot your password because there are too many passwords to remember and etc.., Well if this is your problem too then this post will help you.

To recover your lost ubuntu password follow these simple steps.

Step #1: Just reboot your system and enter boot menu.
If your are good ubuntu user and had a single boot i.e ubuntu is the only OS on your computer them press and hold Shift key while booting, thus you can see some boot options.
If you are dual boot i.e you use windows/mac/other Linux distribution along with ubuntu then you can automatically see some boot options without the need to hold shift key.

Step #2: From boot options select recovery mode.

Step #3: After selecting the recovery mode wait until the boot finishes. Once the process finishes you have to select Drop to root shell prompt in the list in order to reset your password.

Step #5: This gives the list of user accounts, Now type this command and press enter.

passwd username

Here replace username with the username you want to reset.

Step #6: Now you will be prompted for a new password, just give your new password(you will not see your password while you type) and press enter, you will be prompted to retype so retype the password again.

PSR (Problem Steps Recorder)

Window 7 has a great inbuilt future called "PSR - Problem Steps Recorder" which help you to record problems caused by any program installed in you PC. As a PC guru you are followed by your friends and relatives or by others to make you to solve the irritating small PC software problems ; I know you are very frustrated by this because they even don't know how to describe their actual problem.

But Microsoft knew your pain, So they had came up with a good solution(PSR) by which you can ask your friend/relative/others to run this and send the generated report, So that you can solve their problem with ease.

Now lets see how to work with it, Just follow this simple steps.

Step #1: Click on "Start" and type "PSR" and press enter. Now press "Record"
Step #2: Now run the misbehaving application so that PSR records every thing like every click and key-
press, take screen grabs, and package everything up into a single zipped MHTML file.

Google Image Swirl

Google released a new Google Labs experiment related to image search:Google Image Swirl. The service "organizes image search results based on their visual and semantic similarities and presents them in an intuitive exploratory interface."

Google Image Swirl clusters the top image search results for more than 200,000 queries and it lets you explore the clusters and the relation between images.
"Once you find the group of images you're interested in, you can click on the thumbnail and a cluster of images will "swirl" into view. You can then further explore additional sub-groups within any cluster. Image Swirl expands on technologies developed for Similar Images and Picasa Face Recognition to discern how images should be grouped together and build hierarchies out of these groups. Each thumbnail on the initial results page represents an algorithmically-determined representative group of images with similar appearance and meaning. These aren't just the most relevant images — they are the most relevant groups of images," explains Google.
Try queries like: jaguarflowersvan Gogh and keep in mind that this is an early demo, so not all the queries will return results.

Google has two other visualization tools: "wonder wheel" for exploring related searches and YouTube Warp, an interactive way to visualize related YouTube videos.

Mosaic Brings Windows 8 Metro User Interface To Windows 7

Remember previously covered Windows8Menu that brings Side Menu of upcoming Windows 8 tablet  to Windows 7? The application adds tile at right side of the screen to access Windows 8 Side Menu applications, web links, and system search. Mosaic is an open source application for Windows 7 which offers somewhat same features of Window8Menu but in the form of widgets. It contains 9 beautifully designed metro UI based desktop widgets to give Windows 7 users a feel of Windows 8 tablets. The application is however in early beta testing phase, it works without any major problems on both 32-bit and 64-bit editions of Windows 7. Just like Windows8Menu, you can customize it from tile present at right side of the screen. You can choose to run it full-screen mode to use HTML 5 based widget, nevertheless, you can use keep widgets alongside desktop items without having to switch viewing modes.
Talking about the widgets, clock, weather, and Gmail email account widgets are highly dynamic and are programmed to update themselves without requiring any input from user’s end. The Control panel, HTML5, lock, video, user profile picture, desktop widgets are designed to perform the respective functions; you can click on Control Panel and Video to open Windows 7 Control Panel and specified video path. Similarly, the User profile picture path can also be replaced with your favorite wallpaper folder. To set up options of dynamic widget, like weather or Gmail, right-click it and select options.

Since it’s going through early developmental stages, you may run on functionality related bugs. According to the developer, the next version with enhanced and relatively stable functions will be released soon.

Create Virus to Block Websites

Most of us are familiar with the virus that used to block Orkut and Youtube site.If you are curious about creating such a virus on your own, then you are in the right place.Tody I’ll teach you how to create a simple virus that block’s websites. And as usual I’ll use my favorite programming language ‘C’ to create this website blocking virus.I will give a brief introduction about this virus before I jump into the technical jargon.

This virus has been exclusively created in ‘C’.So, anyone with a basic knowledge of C will be able to understand the working of the virus. This virus need’s to be clicked only once by the victim.Once it is clicked, it’ll block a list of websites that has been specified in the source code. The victim will never be able to surf those websites unless he re-install’s the operating system. This blocking is not just confined to IE or Firefox. So once blocked, the site will not appear in any of the browser program.

NOTE:

You can also block a website manually. But, here I have created a virus that automates all the steps involved in blocking. The manual blocking process is described in the post.

Here is the sourcecode of the virus.

1. Download the source code

2. Compile the sourcecode using any C/C++ compiler.

3. To test, run the compiled module. It will block the sites that is listed in the source code.

4. Once you run the exe file, then restart your browser program. Then, type the URL of the blocked site and you’ll see the browser showing error “Page cannot displayed

“.

4. To remove the virus type the following the Run.

%windir%\system32\drivers\etc

5. There, open the file named “hosts” using the notepad. At the bottom of the opened file you’ll see something like this

127.0.0.1—————————google.com

6. Delete all such entries which contain the names of blocked sites.

have a good fun...

Get the latest movie trailers in Windows 7 Media Center

Windows 7 Media Center is designed to be your entertainment hub for the big screen. As such, it makes perfect sense to watch the latest movie trailers inside Media Center rather than go hunting for the same on YouTube. So let us look at two Windows 7 Media Center plug-ins that allow you to stream movie trailers to the software as they become available, without you having to go looking for them.
1. Trailer Library let’s you stream movie trailers from Filmtrailers.com directly into Windows Media Center. After you have downloaded and installed the plug-in, open Windows 7 Media Center and you should see the plug-in appear under the Extra’s library. Click on the icon to launch.
Immediately, the Trailer Library will start downloading poster thumbnails of movies currently in cinemas or scheduled to be released in coming weeks. The plug-in is primarily focused on the UK and European market, so users in the US may want to look at something else. We will come to that later.
trailer-library
By default, Trailer Library is set to the UK region. For European users you can select your locale from the Settings menu at the top of the screen. This will give you a more localized selection as well as movie details in your native language. You can also change the number of movies to display from the default value of 10 to a higher number like 20 or 30.
trailer-library2
Clicking on a thumbnail gives you short description of movie along with cast information. To watch the trailer just click on the play button.
2. My Trailers is not free, but a trial version is available that lets you try out the full thing before you shell out 6 bucks for the full product, which isn’t much really. The trial version is limited to 10 trailers at a time. This means that if there are more than 10 new trailers available, you can only view 10 of them. The advantage of My Trailers over Trailer Library is that the former is targeted towards the US market and hence matches the movies which are currently in theater or the ones about to be released.
mytrailers
On launching My Trailers you will be treated to a 20 second delay notice telling you that are running the trial version. Once you have sat through those 20 seconds you will see a coverflow view of the latest movies trailers on offer. To change the layout, press the CTRL key.
Here you will see two modes, one that shows the “Now Playing” trailers and another one that shows the “Coming soon” trailers. Each mode is limited to 5 trailers making the total of 10. Under the settings you can also change the view mode from Coverflow to grid, and makes changes to the theme and effects.
mytrailers2
My Trailers is a bit disappointing because of their limited collection of trailers. The now playing section is at least two months old and the incoming section shows some obscure movies I never saw any where else. Perhaps with the full version, it would start showing a more range of movies, but I had no way of finding that out.
Between the two, I would choose Trailer Library. Alternatively, you can use Media Browser, another plug-in for Windows 7 Media Center, that has movie trailers built into it.

How to create Windows XP Live CD, complete with preinstalled programs

To create a Windows XP Live CD we will require

1. Bart PEbuilder
2. A CD burner like Nero
3. A bootable Windows XP CD and
4. Some pebuilder plugins to customize the CD.

Step 1: Download PeBuilder from here and install it. Make sure you have enough free space on the drive where you install the program. After you have finished adding all programs it will create an ISO to be burned into a disk. The size of the ISO will depend upon how many programs you add to your live CD. I would recommend atleast 700MB of free space.

Step 2: You may want to set a wallpaper that will appear on the desktop when you boot the CD. For this open the folder where you have installed PEbuilder and replace the file bartpe.bmp with the wallpaper of your choice.

Step 3: Download XPE plugin from here (direct download link). It's the GUI shell of the XP Live CD that will create the XP start button and taskbar. You are free to download as many plugin (applications) you want. Currently there are more than 500 applications to choose from. Both freewares and commercial applications are available. Antivirus programs like Kaspersky, NOD32, Avast; burning program Nero; media players like VLC; OpenOffice, Foxit PDF reader, Acrobat Reader etc are available.

More Plugins here

Step 4: After you have finished downloading all your favourite programs, open PEbuider and specify the source path to the Windows XP installation bootable CD. You can copy the CD to your hard disk and point the source to the copied file.

Step 5: Click Plugins and add all the plugins you have downloaded. Since we have added XPE, disable nu2shell and the startup group from the list of plugins.

Step 6: Specify the ISO image file and click Build. The program will integrate the plugins and create an ISO image.

Step7: Burn the image into a disk using any burning software and your live CD is ready.
